چکیده

The HL-LHC is being designed to deliver an integrated luminosity of at least 250fb−1/year in each of the two LHC General-Purpose Experiments ATLAS and CMS for proton operation [1], while operating the other two experiments, ALICE and LHCb, at very low and moderate instantaneous luminosity, of about 10 and 1–2×1033 cm−2s−1, respectively [2, 3]. The ambitious performance target for ATLAS and CMS cannot be met without pushing both the optics to their extreme, namely β∗, and the nominal parameters of the LHC beam. It relies as well on a number of very challenging new equipment and key innovative technologies, such as:

CMS Tracker Upgrade for HL-LHC: R&D Plans, Present Status and Perspectives

During the high luminosity phase of the LHC (HL-LHC), the machine is expected to deliver an instantaneous luminosity of 5× 10 cm−2s−1. A total of 3000 fb−1 of data is foreseen to be delivered, with the opening of new physics potential for the LHC experiments, but also new challenges from the point of view of both detector and electronics capabilities and radiation hardness. In order to maintain...

Roadmap ( S ) for Particle Physics ∗

For many decades, experimental particle physics has been characterised by projects realised in international cooperation. With very ambitious scientific programmes and particle beams reaching higher and higher energies and intensities, accelerators are becoming even more sophisticated and very expensive. It further enhances the importance of international collaborations not only for performing ...

Physics prospects at the HL-LHC with ATLAS

The High-Luminosity LHC aims to provide a total integrated luminosity of 3000 fb−1 from proton-proton collisions at √ s = 14 TeV over the course of ∼ 10 years, reaching instantaneous luminosities of up to L = 7.5× 1034cm−2s−1, corresponding to an average of 200 inelastic pp collisions per bunch crossing (μ = 200) . The upgraded ATLAS detector and trigger system must be able to cope well with in...

The Physics Landscape of the High Luminosity LHC

We review the status of HEP after the first run of the LHC and discuss the opportunities offered by the HL-LHC, in light of the needs for future progress that are emerging from the data. The HL-LHC will push to the systematic limit the precision of most measurements of the Higgs boson, and will be necessary to firmly establish some of the more rare decays foreseen by the Standard Model, such as...
